This
property was built after a model designed by Cecil Pinsent
(the architect who created the La Foce gardens) in the
twenties and its plan has not been altered since, with
the living quarters reached by outdoor stairs leading
to a small loggia which protects the front door. La Casaccia
belongs to the son of one of the owners. He is a painter
and the house has an artistic touch to it which makes
it different from the other houses on the estate. It lies
on its own overlooking the magnificent valley. The house
is reached over a dust road which starts at Chiarentana
, reaches La Casaccia after 1 kilometer, and continues
through the property right to the bottom of the valley.
The house has been completely refurbished in 2007 and
has become a perfect retreat for family holidays, heaven
for children, with games and books stored in the twin
bedroom, a playground area with sand in the garden and
a private pool (mt. 12 x 6).
Here you will find space, lightness and essential furnishing,
an assemblage put together by the owner and his wife over
the last years.
At the center of the house are the kitchen and the large
living room, both overlooking the Orcia Valley - a view
which will never stop giving you strong impressions. The
living room’s decoration is marked by four windows
looking out over the valley, a fireplace, three comfortable
sofas and a writing table. Furthermore the house has 5
bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and is equipped with a cot and
high chair.
In the garden there’s a table for meals outside;
a group of loosely set holm oaks at the back of the house
offers a shady retreat for hot summer afternoons. Paths
leading from the house invite you to wonderful walks through
the property and beyond.
You will be interested in the history of the house, especially
if you have read Iris Origo’s book War in Val d’Orcia.
The farmers who lived here during World War II became
involved with the partisans living in the forests around
La Foce and their house was used for secret meetings and
as a deposit for minor weapons. |
