The olive groves of
the Le Macchie agriturismo look out over the spectacular
valley of the River Orcia, south-east of Siena and close
to the little towns of Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino.
Meanwhile, Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia and Arezzo are easy
day trips. A stone's throw from the Le Macchie farmhouses
is the medieval hamlet of Monticchiello, where each
year the villagers take part in a play or "teatro povero"
in the main square directed by the parish priest.

For years now, Le Macchie has been
entirely devoted to the environmental-friendly production
of olive oil - "L'Olio Extravergine Le Macchie
Terre di Siena D.O.P." - which is exported all
over the world and will be there to welcome you in your
apartment on arrival, together with a basket of fruit
and eggs fresh from the farm.
The terracotta floors, original beamed
ceilings and great stone fireplaces welcome the guest
in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Antique Tuscan
furniture, wrought-iron lamps and linens produced in
Monticchiello as well as Tuscan "arte povera" have been
used in the decoration of the interiors of Le Macchie.
The architecture of the farmhouses available for holiday rentals at Le Macchie dates
back to the 17th century. The apartments for rent have
been renovated with great care and are for parties of
from 2 to 6 persons.
In the near vicinity of Le Macchie farm holiday estate you will be able to visit a number
of natural hot water spas. Bagni San Filippo, for instance,
lies in the woods where the eternally surging hot water
has shaped natural pools into the rocks. |
