OVERVIEW Villa La Cappella

Villa La Cappella is set high up in the hills above Lucca. This lovely villa, a labour of love of the owners Mario and Lodovica, faces south and enjoys magnificent views over the valley and the town of Lucca in the background It is a comfortable and family-friendly villa sleeping 20 in 10 bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom.

It was thouroughly restored only 6 years ago. The restoration work has preserved the traditional features of the Lucca villa style, such as original terracotta tiled floors and beamed cealings. Modern comforts such as a bathroom for each bedroom were added to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Six bedrooms are queen sized, four bedrooms are twin. All have ensuite bathrooms. Besides some of the bedrooms are contained within flats and therefore have autonomous kitchens.
Two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms are located on the first floor.
Three double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms are located upstair on the second floor.

The loggia stretches along the front of the villa and doubles as an outdoor living and dining room. It is here that you will probably spend most of your time, unless you prefer the pool, which lies on a lower level of the garden, equally facing the valley and furnished with comfortable sunbeds and deck chairs. The swimming pool is open from May until October, the access to the pool is gated for the security of small children.

The perfectly maintained garden was cleverly designed to create a number of quiet and private spaces where guests can relax, enjoy the view, or simply read a book in the shade. Delicate sculptures of dancing figures are scattered around the space. A pergola with a beautiful large table allows for outdoor meals. It is also possible to barbecue.

A chapel, located at the far end of the villa, gave the property its name. You can get married here, or simply have a blessing. Further down the road in walking distance is a lovely romanic church which can be used for larger weddings.

The road to access the villa is paved and easy to drive. There are two to three km of sweet uphill drive amidts olive groves.

Solar energy generates hot water and electricity. Read more about the owners enviromentals involvement here. There is dish-washers, washing machines, satellite television, a DVD and VHS player, a stereo hi-fi system, a GSM mobile phone is available for hire. Guests can also access the Internet.

ESTATE: La Cappella

This lovely villa is set high up in the hills above Lucca. The owners Ludovica and Pietro were looking for a lifetime project in the early 1990’ies and fell in love with a derelict convent dating back to the 17th century. The restoration work was a labour of love, and you feel it wherever you set your eyes.  La Cappella has become a house full of  charm, beauty and peace. A villa ideal for large groups, family reunions and weddings. Ludovica the owner has become an expert wedding planner and will be happy to help you with the organisation.

The restoration work has preserved the traditional features of the Lucca villa style, such as original terracotta tiled floors and beamed cealings. Modern comforts such as a bathroom for each bedroom were added to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

You will be interested to learn that Ludovica and Pietro have been at the forefront of technical innovation for the use of alternative energy. Villa La Cappella is one of the first and still one of the very few to use solar energy for hot water and electricity needs. Lodovica and Pietro are continuously researching new environmental friendly and efficient ways to look after guests'needs.

Yoga teachers often choose La Cappella as a location for their weekly classes. Cooking courses, can be arranged upon request. La Cappella can also help you organise your wedding.

ACTIVITIES

  • Lucca: Twenty minutes away from Orbicciano by car, Lucca is one of the most enchanting towns in Tuscany - strolling along the wide avenues along the top of the ancient city walls or in the narrow streets with their ninety nine churches, browsing among the old-fashioned little boutiques, sipping a cappuccino at one of the many bars, tasting the best ice-cream, visiting the richly endowed museums - is a sheer delight.
  • The famous Villas around Lucca: Some of these historic villas are open to the public and a few have internationally renowned gardens, all of which makes highly rewarding sight-seeing while staying in the area of Orbicciano.http://www.villelucchesi.net
  • The worlds smallest theatre (Guinness Book of Records) is the Teatrino di Vetriano, today owned by FAI (the Italian equivalent to the National Trust) http://www.fondoambiente.it/beni/teatrino-di-vetriano.asp
  • Sightseeing: Pisa is at twenty kilometres, Florence at 80 and Siena at 120. The small sculptors town Pietrasanta, just below the marble caves where the famous white carrara marble comes from (a fascinating excursion) is twenty minutes away.
  • The seaside: There are sandy beaches approximately thirty minutes away on the coast of Versilia at Viareggio and the fashionable Forte dei Marmi with lively bars, designer shopping and some of the best seafood restaurants in Italy.
