Sure-footed with Venetian Furlane

In order to properly oversee the restoration, decoration and final touches of our new exclusive project in Venice – the Ca’nova Palazzo with its four superb apartments, – I have had to spend quite a bit of time over there, as you can imagine, repeatedly shuttling back and forth between the City of Light and the Serenissima.

At the beginning, everytime I was about to run out to catch a flight from Paris, my daughter used to pull a face and gently lament: “You’re not going to Venice again, Mummy, are you?”

A Feast for the Eye and the Blessed Memory

At one point, escorted by the delightful owners of the premises, I walked into one of the spacious rooms and uttered under my breath: “Wow!” Then I glided over to the window opening onto the Grand Canal and went again, but in a louder tone this time: “Wooow!”

Doing the Rounds of the Venetian Bacaris

“Well, Anke, I guess we could call it a day, what do you think?”

It was 9:30 pm. Anke and I were still in our Paris office, having worked industriously since the morning hours. She looked at me with her big round eyes:
“Yes, I agree, Katharina. Gee, I wish we had a Venetian bacari just across the street!”

I felt the same. We were both starving to death but too tired to consider a full meal in a restaurant. A small bite to eat and a fresh glass of wine, bacari-style, would have been just fine.
