Torre

Torre is an exclusive and luxury villa which has just been rebuilt on the ruins of a medieval tower of the estate Tenuta di Murlo.

The tower was originally built in a strategic position on the top of a hill overlooking the valley of Monte Tezio and of the castle of Murlo. The villa enjoys a superb position with amazing and stunning views across the immaculate countryside with its secular olive trees and green valleys. This idyllic and rustic scene has changed little since the XII century when it was originally built.

This luxury villa Torre is an elegant villa set on the top of a rolling Umbrian hill within the estates of Murlo and Antognolla offering a peaceful atmosphere, breathtaking views and surely one of the most enjoyable retreats in Umbria yet backed by a discreet five-star service and by the facilities and commodities of a five-star luxury resort.

Castello di Magrano

The magnificent Castello di Magrano was built in the middle ages (1200 AC), to protect the town of Gubbio against Perugia. The castle has retained its defensive character from the outside, but four years of intensive renovation have turned the interior into an extremely welcoming and comfortable house for 14 to 35 guests.

The owners of the estate are descendants of the family of Napoleon Bonaparte and the castle has been in their family since 1830. The castle is surrounded by a park with centuries’ old trees, large lawns and a beautiful pool which looks out over the hilly 1400-acre estate. The estate is signposted with beautiful walks and in the appropriate season you can even go truffle hunting with local experts.

The accommodation is split across two buildings – the main castle, which sleeps 14, and the guest house, which stands to the side of the castle and connects to the castle via a corridor, which sleeps another 16. The most exciting rooms are of course up in the watchtower!

The ground-floor kitchen is modern and functional, a professional stainless steel kitchen. It opens up onto the courtyard and the back of the castle, both equipped for outdoor meals.

In and outdoor entertainment is given by a billiard table, ping pong, foot ball table, petanque and mountain bikes.

The local village can be reached in 5 minutes by car. Gems such as Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Cortona, Spoleto and Todi are all within easy reach.

The Castello can be rented for less than a week, there is a minimum 3 night stay. Please enquire about rates.

Villa Tombolino

Unspoilt beaches fringed with dunes are backed by hillsides covered in Mediterranean scrub and olive groves, crested by charming hill-top villages. The reclaimed flatlands where cattle used to roam herded by the local cowboys have today largely been given over to well-husbanded vineyards yielding some of the most prestigious vintages in Italy (Sassicaia, Ornellaia). These are the surroundings of Villa Tombolino, an elegant beach house with private access to the beach.

The villa was fully refurbished to a very high decorative standard  and is a marvel of modern technology with computer controlled air conditioning, heating and lighting and many other conveniences. The house develops over three floors, each bedroom has its own bathroom. You will love the huge teak-floored terrace with a pine tree growing through it to the rear of the villa, equipped with comfortable chairs, sofas, loungers and an outside dining table.

The beach is reached through a pine grove belonging to the estate. In the dunes behind the beach stands a cabana for picknicks, with table and sund beds, and a shower.

Standing in an unspoilt tract of typical Tuscan seaside pine forest, this villa is just perfect for a great family holiday.

Have a swim in the private pool (14m x 7m  depth 1.40)  located at the far end of the garden. The pool is equipped with sunbeds, a shower, and a WC.

Villa La Foce

Villa La Foce is the Origo family house. It was originally built at the end of the XVth century as a wayside tavern, but soon became the centre of an estate belonging to the great Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala in Siena. In 1924 it was bought by Antonio and Iris Origo and turned into their comfortable home, from where they farmed and developed the land.

The Villa is built on three levels, following the lie of the hill, and is surrounded by the now famous garden created by Iris Origo and the English architect Cecil Pinsent – a ‘labour of love’ lasting many years. The house is full of old-world charm, not showy, but with beautiful antique furniture, comfortable beds, and lots of lovely rooms which offer both both privacy and opportunities for family gatherings.

There are many cultural activities organized by and around La Foce, held mainly in the Castelluccio, a medieval castle only 1 mile away, such as the well-known music festival Incontri in Terra di Siena, that gathers numerous music and art lovers to this beautiful and unspoilt part of Tuscany, the Val d’Orcia, recently included among the World Heritage sites of UNESCO.

Three gardeners look after the premises, including the swimming pool opposite the ‘limonaia’ (orangerie). Two full-time maids (including a local cook) and an extra help care for the house and its inhabitants. Meals are often held under the pergola in the garden, where guests relax in the shade of roses and wisteria, lulled by the sound of water from the fountain nearby.

Villa La Foce includes an independent apartment on the second floor, with its own kitchen: a perfect retreat for children and nannies, or younger guests.

Casa di Donata

Donata’s house offers all the special charm, character and seclusion of a private home and garden, with the additional advantage of having the restaurant, tennis, playground and other children’s activities within easy reach.

At the far corner of Chiarentana is the house lived in by Donata, one of the two Origo sisters. When, in the early eighties, Donata began to renovate the square fortified farmhouse for many centuries occupied by 7 peasant families, an open informal garden was designed to blend into the surrounding countryside, and rambling roses, shrubs and bulbs planted to soften the stone-flagged courtyard shaded by a large linden tree.

Recently Donata’s house has become available for rent. The house is on two levels with windows facing south over the Val d’Orcia, west beyond the horse paddocks to the sunset beyond the distant hills, and over the courtyard. From the front door steps lead down the lower garden level and an open living space with rattan sofas and armchairs and a with a spectacular view over the valley and beyond to the Monte Amiata. Large clumps of rosemary, lavender and thyme rise from the open lawn with areas where walnut, apricot, cherry, plum, quince and fig trees provide shade and seclusion. There is a rectangular swimming pool (15X5m), also looking out towards the view but tucked away where bathers cannot be seen, with a shower and changing room next door.

Doors from the courtyard and the main door on the west side lead into the ground floor. There is an entrance hall, a cloak room for guests, a library/study, a large sunny living room with windows looking out both ways over the courtyard and the valley, with a pretty fireplace with antique Neapolitan tiles. The dining room is a beautiful tiled kitchen with a raised fireplace, a large table extendable to 14 places, and a smaller kitchen next door where the cooking is actually done. Next to the dining room is a comfortable and informal living/playroom with satellite TV and an entire book-case with children’s books, some dating back to Donata’s childhood. French doors lead to a wisteria and rose-shaded pergola. This becomes the main dining space in summer, in the shade at lunch time and looking out towards the sunset in the evening. A wood oven in front of the pergola can be used to cook pizza and succulent roast meat. A guest room with twin queen-size beds and en suite bathroom is also on this floor.

A flight of stairs leads up to the first floor, where a suite with a room with a large double bed and another with twin beds sharing a bathroom and a smaller washroom with basin and toilet is ideal for a family. Two other large rooms with double beds, each with en suite bathroom are also on this floor. One is called the “African” room for its paintings and sculptures from Zimbabwe, the other the “yellow” room for its shades of wash on the walls, curtains and bedspread, carpets from Morocco, and sunny exposure. Both rooms look south over the valley. Antique family furniture, paintings, and objects can be found in all rooms in the house.

From 8.30 to 2.30 the services of a maid/cook who has been working for Donata for many years are included. She will prepare breakfast and lunches with fresh products from the vegetable garden and orchard, and leave dinner to be heated up on request. S/he can also be available to cook and serve evening meals at an additional cost.
